CAREERS EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT

Career Education at Masada is a wide ranging program of activities to encourage and enable a student’s career interests and aspirations to be explored and achieved.  

Careers Counselling
Meet with students in individual appointments (parents are also most welcome to attend); typically in Years 10-12 to discuss their career interests and plans.  

Application and Interview Support
If your child is planning to apply for cadetships, scholarships or tertiary education courses which require an interview or application form (typically in Year 12), support and assistance can be provided in this process.

        Career Development Activities and Excursions
Individuals and year groups will be invited to attend careers expos, university career days to expose students to the range of career and further education opportunities available to them.

A Careers Day for Years 10-12 will be hosted at Masada College in June, where people from a range of different careers, professions and industries will be invited on campus to discuss their career paths, education and career insights with students to enable them to better understand different work settings, educational pathways and careers.

Careers Information Library
The Careers Adviser can provide you with a range of brochures, books and e-resources to enable you to research and explore different types of education, employment and training options open to students during and post school.   

Work Experience Coordination
Assistance with exploring work experience options as well as coordination of necessary paperwork & insurances.  

Visiting Speakers
Universities, private higher education providers (colleges, GAP year programs), TAFE, scholarships, cadetship programs will be invited to the college to come and talk about different careers, education and training opportunities. 

CAREERS ADVISER

At Masada College we are fortunate to have on staff a very experienced Careers Adviser, Ms Suzy Hughes. Ms Hughes is a passionate Career Development and Education specialist who is committed to supporting Masada students to make informed career and further education choices. 

She has over 12 years’ career education experience in Higher Education, most recently at Macquarie University where she was the Manager of Career Education, leading the career education strategy for the university and managing a team of eight career development specialists.

     

 

Ms Hughes has previously held roles in careers education at UNSW and also a private college. She spent the early part of her career in Human Resources, Marketing and Hospitality roles for Lion Nathan, Nestle and (what is now) the Marriott Sydney. Roles during this time included managing the Graduate Recruitment and Development program at Lion Nathan.

She holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing and Hospitality Management from UNSW, a Master of Education from UTS, as well as a Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Certificate IV Workplace Assessment and Training both from the Australian College of Applied Psychology. Ms Hughes has professional memberships with the Career Development Association of Australia (CDAA), Careers Advisers Association of NSW and ACT (CAA) and previously the National Association of Graduate Career Advisory Services (NAGCAS), where she presented a workshop and facilitated a special interest group on Career Development Learning at their national conference in 2011.    

Careers Adviser Availability
Suzy Hughes is available at the College on Wednesdays, Thursdays and alternate Fridays (Week A) for student and parent appointments. Before and after school appointments are able to be arranged upon request.
