Aims

1. TO DEVELOP JEWISH VALUES WITHIN A JEWISH ETHOS

  • Give students a sound knowledge of Judaism and Ivrit and encourage them to follow Jewish traditions and values and instil in them a love of Israel and Judaism.
  • Assist students in exploring and developing sound moral and ethical values and practices applicable throughout life.
  • Give students a strong sense of Jewish identity.
  • Give students a strong sense of Australian identity and citizenship.
  • Develop in students a concerned and caring attitude and sense of responsibility in belonging to the Jewish community, the Australian community, the Masada community and the wider community.
  • Develop a lifelong love of learning.
  • Value personal achievement and the achievements of others in all endeavours.

2. TO FOSTER EXCELLENCE IN LEARNING INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM.

  • Foster each child’s academic and non-academic potential.
  • Encourage and stimulate in all members of the College community the lifelong pursuit of learning, its enjoyment and mastery, through conventional and innovative teaching and learning practices with an emphasis on experiential learning.
  • Stimulate initiative, creativity, the development of imagination and a spirit of enquiry.
  • Teach students to think clearly, logically and creatively so that they may grow to exercise sound and independent judgement.
  • Nurture students’ skills and enjoyment in a range of expressive, aesthetic and sporting activities – in particular to encourage and facilitate good physical health and fitness.

3. TO CREATE A CARING COMMUNITY

  • To provide a safe, secure and caring environment in which students and staff members can develop self-esteem and self-respect through recognition of achievement and encouragement of effort.
  • To foster an atmosphere of tolerance and understanding.
  • Enable students to understand and care for the Masada College environment and the wider environment in which they live.

4. TO PREPARE FOR THE FUTURE

  • Enable students and staff members to be scientifically and technologically literate.
  • Prepare students and staff members for their role in a rapidly changing world and work place.
  • Enable students to effectively communicate ideas and feelings through verbal and visual media.

5. TO STRENGHTHEN COLLEGE-COMMUNITY LINKS

  • The College strives to enhance the partnership between the College, the parents and the community through effective communication and participation in:
  • Parenting evenings.
  • Inviting qualified members of the community to act as mentors in Years 3 – 6.
  • Mentoring programs by parents and grandparents.
  • Vacation care programs in Preschool and Primary.
  • Keeping parents informed.
  • Publication and circulation to parents of overviews each term (K – 6).
  • Regular parent / teacher meetings.
  • Regular reports sent to parents and children.
  • Publication and circulation of assessment schedules for Years 7 – 12 and Policy Documents for Years 10, 11 and 12.
  • Publication of Annual Report of College which are made available to parents.
  • Information evenings for parents.
  • Publication of the fortnightly Shofar newsletter link and annual Masadian School Magazines all of which inform the parents and the community about the College.
  • Inviting parents to assist with Primary School camps, excursions and a wide range of Primary and High School functions.
  • Inviting parents to be active members of Parents Auxiliary, Board of Management and Preschool Parent Committee.
  • Students support at Community Functions.
  • Student involvement in Community charity collections.
