Another Masada Zonta Win!
Masada Year 12 student Beth Wigoder has won the esteemed Zonta, Young Women in Public Affairs Award based on her written application. This is the second year that a Masada College student has won. Beth also came runner-up in the speaking division. In 2008 another Masada College student, Sarah Schwartz won the award.
ZONTA is an organisation that works to support those in need throughout the world, with a focus on woman and children. It is present in more than 80 countries and is very proactive in endeavours such as fundraising for obstetric fistula clinics in Africa and supporting the stop of domestic violence globally.
"I was privileged to be nominated for the ZONTA young women in public affairs award this year, a competition run by the local ZONTA club every year. I had to complete an application which described community and school service I had participated in as well as two essay questions. These were regarding what I believed to be the biggest issues facing the status of women both globally and domestically. After all applications had been admitted, ZONTA held an afternoon tea for all the candidates. All the other girls were so lovely and aspired to such great endeavours and it was a pleasure to meet them. The awards dinner was held in early June and I was extremely excited and shocked, due to the high calibre of the girls who participated, to have won", Beth said.
