Sydney Youth Orchestra Chooses Masada Student
Masada College student Steven Adler has worked his way into the Senior Sydney Youth Orchestra after gaining a place last year in one of the Junior orchestras.
Representing Sydney's best young musicians, Sydney Youth Orchestra exists to foster the knowledge, appreciation and understanding of orchestral music among 18-25-year-olds.
Steven has moved on from playing the bass guitar and saxaphone during his 'rocking' teens to taking up the soulfull double bass over the past two years.
"Classsical music requires more skills as the music is more technical and the sound more specific with its powerful thumping sound," he said.
Training at an international level, Steven is one of the great musically gifted youths who has followed their dreams with the help and training from regular rehearsals.
"The rehearsals are really intense and disciplined, however it is an amazing feeling working with people who are just as passionate about music as you are," he said.
In rehearsals, members develop their ensemble playing ability, aural and music reading skills, and good practise techniques, while expanding their general music knowledge.
Steven has just returned from tour during his school holidays, playing in the first of a series of concerts to be held throughout the year.
"Travelling around was a great experience and lots of fun as we got to play in many regional towns."
With so much on his plate as a Year 12 student, Steven's determination is sure to see him achieve outstanding results.
