Double the Success

Double the Success – Twins Top HSC at Masada College

The dux of Masada College class of 2007 knows just how challenging and daunting the HSC experience can be. Daniel Zwi , with a UAI of 99.75, maintains that the huge success this year, placing the school 13th in the State, can be attributed to a few factors.

“I think that the success of the school comes from a work ethic that is inherent in Masadians. There is a general desire to do well, and a value placed on education that manifests itself in academic motivation. Even though you are pitted 'against' your friends in terms of ranks throughout the year, I really think one must help their peers when they can, because a pleasant working environment is ultimately conducive to better results. Personally, I tried to work hard and consistently throughout the year, and a good work ethic is definitely important. One must realise that even if an assignment is worth 5% it still impacts on your final mark and has to be taken seriously. “

Daniel also said that he wanted other students to know that achieving balance is what success is all about. “I think that it's important to keep things in perspective, and not to discontinue other activities such as sport and social commitments. I ran a lot throughout the year, played soccer and made sure to take time off to relax. It helped a lot when it came to knuckling down to study. “

Daniel will probably take a gap year where he would like to participate in the UK-based Arsenal Football Club’s program to teach soccer and English to young Arab and Israeli children in Israel. After that he hopes to study Arts/Law at UNSW. Daniel’s twin brother, Adam, achieved a UAI of 99.70 and has his sights set on Arts Law at Sydney or Monash University. The twin’s mother, Debbie said “Obviously we are very proud of both boys, they both worked incredibly hard, I don’t think they could have worked harder. Still, it was a surprise!”

The boys’ had some parting words to the Masada students they leave behind: “To the year 11's – the HSC goes by in a flash. Enjoy your studies and don't wish the year away. Work hard, and play hard. Keep things in perspective, but realise that at the end of the day, you reap what you sow.”
